There are few things in life that are certainties. But
Norton System Works Professional Edition is something
you can bank on.
Software and set up
After a simple CD install and a system restart, you're
armed with different utilities to help keep your PC in tip-top
shape and free from known viruses.
The first utility I always run on a new PC just after
Windows 98 has been installed is Win Doctor. This diagnostic
always finds errors in the registry that prevent the operating
system from running at its best. I have had systems that kick
out illegal operation errors all the time and after running
Win Doctor, the system will be back to normal most of the
time. (On some occasions I have found that these types of
errors can be caused by faulty memory and can be fixed by
simply replacing the memory. I just had a system on my repair
bench for this type of error that looked like software errors.
As soon as I changed the memory, the system was operating at
100 percent.)
Using it
This version of Win Doctor seems to outperform earlier
versions. I had a couple of systems with Norton System
Works 2.0 installed and both had problems. One had Icons
on the desktop that could not be deleted, no matter what
we tried. So I installed Norton System Works, which is
version 3.0, and ran Win Doctor. All problems were fixed
and I was now able to delete these unwanted icons.
Other utilities include Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Speed
Disk that will help with system performance.
